Hi

Three million unemployed by Christmas!  – It’s bad news and it’s affecting your business, even if you’re doing well and your business is still growing.

Rising unemployment is a real issue for everyone, especially for your staff, they’re worried - are they still going to be in work next month, or even next week?

This ‘job anxiety’ can cause problems for your business. It’s a distraction you and your business don’t need right now.

You need to calm everyone’s fears and make them feel secure. But just telling your employees that everything’s going to be alright isn’t a wise move.  Look at the connotations and track record of such a statement.

When the Prime Minister says a cabinet minister’s OK, you know they’re on the way out.  When a football club chairman gives their manager a vote of confidence, the wise manager starts looking for another job, pronto.

It’s ironic that everyone’s concerned about their future job security, but the more you tell them they’re secure the more insecure they feel. To ensure a happy, secure, confident employee you need to provide something more tangible as a job security message; but at what cost and to what benefit?

A direct investment in each and every individual member of your staff goes a long way to making them feel wanted and needed – feeling secure as part of your business. And if it’s non-transferable it’s got a double whammy effect.

So, what can you do that isn’t going to cost your business a fortune and will prove an investment, not a cost?

Start of sales bit – consider Corporate Portrait Photography – if you commission me to produce new corporate portraits for you and the senior members of your business, I’ll photograph every other member of your staff at a very reasonable rate – end of sales bit.

Look at it from a purely bottom-line viewpoint, your staff will feel so lifted by your investment, and their feeling of job security, they’ll probably double your investment in an day or two, and go on rewarding your investment into the future, that’s without counting the positive PR and the way you can use your corporate images to enhance your business.

OK, now I’d like to ask for your thoughts, I’ve just updated my Corporate Portrait Blog, the new image is in colour and black and white – I’d like your feedback on how they make you feel about the Rachel, the subject of the image.

Best
Alan
