Hi

I hate to let people down, I’m fanatical about delivery and deadlines, I guess most business people are.

But sometimes I don’t have the same dedication and tenacity when I need to do something for my own business – I often miss my personal deadlines, for instance: I’ve been meaning to create a new webpage for a couple of weeks now and it’s still not finished!

But, despite this week being too hot for me to produce my new webpage, it’s still been interesting – I’ve been to a couple of very stimulating seminars.

So if you’re anything like me, and you don’t give as much to your business as you give to your clients, you might like to share a couple of golden nuggets I picked up on. They’re both about getting things done for yourself.

First:
Smart Pledge – a way to analyze and evaluate a task to see if it’s worth doing.

Specific – What do I want to do or achieve?

Measure – How will I measure what I’m doing or when I’ve achieved it?

Achievable – How will I do it?

Rewards – Is it really worth doing, is it time well spent?

Time – When will I start – when will I finish?

Second:
If you’ve got something you want to do for yourself.

1. Set yourself a do-able deadline.

2. Phone a friend or client and ask them to phone you on the deadline, just as a client would.

3. If you’ve missed your deadline tell them to give you a severe bollocking, just as a client would.

The other interesting thing was that at both seminars I met someone I hadn’t seen in ages, they both said the same thing: “What’s happened to your emails? We miss them!”

So, as I’ve always been a sucker for compliments and flattery here’s the return of the Alan Howarth Email – hope you’re pleased.

OK, that’s it, except I’d like you to help me complete my new web page Take a look and ask the corporate portrait question you’d like answering. There’s a free corporate portrait to be won!

You might like to look at my Corporate Portrait Blog too, leave your comments, let me know what you think. I’m looking for more content – it could be you!

Best
Alan
